Kiera T of Manchester:
“NHTunes assisted in recording a Christmas CD for my mom. We met about four times to record a total of 10 songs. I am more than pleased with the outcome, the price I paid, and quality. Made my mom cry today when I gave it to her. Hands down I wouldn’t recommend any place else.”
Maureen M of Bedford:
“I’m creating an international e-course and was not having success with my home-attempt at the audio for my PowerPoint videos, so I found out about NH Tunes and thought I’d give it a try and I’m so glad I did. The quality of the audio files – perfect. Customer Service – outstanding. And then he goes above and beyond and makes suggestions that will enhance what I am doing. How NH Tunes became a music lessons name from Bedford to Bow
Although Manchester’s music scene may not rival that of Memphis or New York, the area is home to many talented individuals. Musically inclined people from surrounding communities like Bedford, Goffstown, or even Hooksett and Bow are fortunate to have an accessible and affordable music “school” nearby to learn a musical instrument and music theory. There is even a first rate digital recording studio with two adjoining soundproof vocal booths for aspiring or accomplished artists to record, mix and master their work.

After working 20+ years in information technology, I knew it was time to pursue my music business idea. I wanted to do it right, so I earned an MBA from Southern NH University in 2004 and started planning the business. Although I had played guitar almost 40 years, I had no formal music training so I enrolled in Berklee’s online program. Two years later I had my guitar certificate and launched NHTunes from my home, teaching guitar lessons in my basement, and offering on-location recording services.
In July 2011 I happened upon a great sublease deal in Manchester’s Waumbec Mill. Within two months, I had two other instructors working with me at night, and we grew to 20 students. That
Today, I can say my dream is being fulfilled every day at NH Tunes. We’re extremely grateful to you – our students, fans and followers… our friends. When we hear from you on Facebook or see you out and about, we can feel the warmth of our growing community of musicians in Manchester, Bedford, Goffstown, Auburn, Merrimack, Hooksett, Bow and beyond. We’re committed to providing you with a first class music education and production facility in Manchester, NH.

So, if you’re from Bedford or Bow or points in between, become a part of our ongoing story. We invite you to explore and experience the joys of learning to play a musical instrument. Weighing The Cost Of Music Lessons… Are They Worth It?
Are music lessons worth it? Let’s face it; music lessons are an investment. Like all investments, you expect some type of return from them. I’ll explain why music lessons are an excellent investment in the student’s development, and very little of it has to do with actually learning their instrument! Let’s discuss some returns that you can expect; no theories or quantitative scientific studies here, just benefits that I’ve seen over my years of teaching; benefits that we incorporate into our music lessons at NHTunes.
hold them at an outside venue monthly at no cost to the student. The piece performed by the student isn’t really important; what is important is that the students have a good performance experience. Time after time, the first students to sign up for a next recital are those who just completed the last one. These students are overcoming their performance anxieties, and are building confidence through an excellent live performance experience. Performance experience is also a key component of overall musicianship.

How To Set A Compressor
The following tutorial, How To Set A Compressor, is reprinted from the book “Home Recording Need-To-Know Essentials To Improve Your Mixes“.
How To Set A Compressor
So, let’s assume we have an unruly vocal track; one that is too loud in certain areas of a song, and/or too soft in others, or perhaps there’s one verse or chorus where it just gets too loud. There are several ways regarding how to set a compressor, but the way I set my compressor on a vocal track is like this:
- Choose a softer passage and set the fader so the volume level is appropriate (i.e. the vocal track sits well in the mix from a dynamics standpoint).
- Go to a louder passage and listen. Are the vocals too loud? If so, we know how to fix this; add a compressor as an insert effect on the track. The compressor will reduce the gain and make the loud part sit better in the mix.
- Set the ratio at a conservative 3:1 to start.
- Move the threshold setting to zero, and slowly start bringing it down. Bring it down until gain reduction occurs; then more until the loud passage sits well in the mix.
Great! You have compressed the vocal so that the loud passage sits well. Now, go back to the softer passage. Is it still OK? If so, and chances are if the threshold was set correctly it is, listen through the mix, and all may be well, with just some minor tweaks required. But if not, now what? How do we get both the loud and soft passages to be at appropriate dynamic levels with a single threshold setting? We’ll do that through our ratio setting, and here’s how you fix it:
- Go back to the softer passage. You should be seeing gain reduction, which is why it’s no longer sitting well in the mix. Slowly increase your threshold so that the dynamic level is back to sitting well in the mix. You should now see little, if any gain reduction occurring – but listen before looking!
- Now go back to the louder passage, which at this point should be too loud due to our increasing the threshold (hence less source getting compressed). There should still be some gain reduction going on, just not enough. Now is when we’ll increase our ratio. We were at 3:1.. don’t be afraid to go to 6:1 or 8:1.. whatever is needed to get the louder section to sit well. You may need to tweak the threshold a bit, and if you do, make sure to go back to the softer passage and tweak as needed.
