Guitar Lessons For Adults

At Manchester ‘s NHTunes, we offer guitar lessons for adults, and have a lot of adult learners. That’s because we understand what adult learners want: they want to learn how to strum and play their favorite songs without the hassle of having to learn to read music, and they want to enjoy their lessons. That is exactly how we approach guitar lessons for adults; fun & relaxed, while getting a good music foundation that will ultimately allow you to learn songs on your own.

Guitar Lessons For Adults

NHTunes knows how to keep adults learners happy and productive!

Can you play the guitar without learning to read music? Absolutely! Many famous guitarists have never learned to read! Reading music is an important skill for those that are considering a career in music; most adults just want to learn to play their favorite songs, and that doesn’t require reading at all.. not a single note!
So, what will your first lesson be like? We’ll first show you how to tune your instrument, then get started on learning a few chords and playing easy songs. With some practice you should be able to play some simpler songs in just a couple of weeks; songs like “This Land Is Your Land”, and “You Are My Sunshine”. Once you get a little more proficient at chord changes, we’ll introduce some classics, like “Brown Eyed Girl”, and “I’m A Believer”. Then, we introduce more chords to expand your song repertoire, and work on what may be the most challenging aspect of guitar lessons for adults: strumming.
Our #1 focus with guitar lessons for adults is to keep them casual and fun. Adults can sometimes lead hectic lives, and some weeks there is little time to practice, so in that case we can review material and get them set up for the next week. Practice times throughout the week will vary, but one fact remains: those that stick with their lessons will be successful!

Our Music Lesson Philosophy Is Simple… Mix Fun & Learning!

Music Lesson Philosophy

Our music lesson philosophy is simple… mix fun & learning!

NHTunes prides itself on our student longevity, and the reason so many students are in it for the long haul is simple; NHTunes makes lessons FUN, all the while remaining productive and enhancing our student’s musical growth.

For younger students, most of the lesson time is focused on working on actual songs that they know, which helps to keep their interest in learning and practicing. There is nothing more exciting than playing a song that you know and like after just a few lessons! Understanding the importance of reading music and formal music training for younger students, we will also spend some time on those skills in the lessons so that they continue to progress in that area. If the student later decides to join jazz band in school, or perhaps even pursue a music education degree, they will be prepared!
Music Lesson Philosophy

Adult lessons don’t necessarily need to focus on reading music

For adult students, the focus is more on playing and less on the formal side. Many adults just want to learn to play and sing, and are not interested in learning to read music (which is an optional skill for most musicians; in fact, many famous musicians can’t read music at all!). So, adult lessons focus on chords and playing actual songs, with less on the theory side (unless of course the student so desires). So, if you’re an adult that’s been putting off music lessons because you don’t want to go through the pains of learning how to read music, fear no more!
NHTunes has been giving lessons for over five years in Manchester’s mill yard to students from Manchester, Bedford, Auburn, Londonderry, Hooksett, Goffstown, and other surrounding communities, and we’re proud to say that we have some students that have been with us nearly this whole time. We believe this is so because of our music lesson philosophy;  we mix fun and learning!

Adult Music Lessons: Five Great Reasons Why Every Adult Should Consider Music Or Voice Lessons!

Maybe you’re a 30, 40, 50, or 60-something (or beyond) and have always wanted to learn to play an instrument or learn to sing better. Don’t put it off any longer…  now’s the time! You can learn to play or sing, and at the same time reap the many other benefits that adult music lessons have to offer. Here are just a few:
1) Playing an instrument or singing can lower your stress.
Playing or singing requires concentration, and will put you into a different ‘zone’ where your stresses and everyday worries are put aside. Playing is also quite relaxing in itself; many musicians will tell you that they play simply to relax. Adult music lessons can be a key factor in lowering your stress.

Music lessons should be FUN!

2) Learning an instrument is a great way to meet people and make new friends.

Musicians are part of a community; learn to play or sing, and you immediately become part of that community! Adult music lessons can become your ticket to socializing with an entirely new group of people, and perhaps making some lifelong friends.

3) Learning an instrument can reduce hearing loss.
A recent study from Northwestern University shows that adult music lessons can in fact help to offset the aging processes affecting hearing loss. This is due to ear training that naturally occurs with learning an instrument or singing. What an incredible side-benefit this can be for adult learners!
4) Performing will boost your self confidence.
Performing in public, while perhaps unnerving at first, can be a real confidence booster for students of all ages, including adults! After the first few nervous recitals, students become more confident in their performances as their skill increases. This confidence often extends to many other areas outside of music; for example, with public speaking, and other general social skills.
We have free monthly recitals for our students, and are proud to see participation from all age groups; often adult performers outnumber the kids!

5) Playing and singing is FUN!

Let us not forget that music and voice lessons are fun! We try our best to make lessons fun, while making sure the student is comfortable and clear with what they should be practicing over the week. We believe that students should look forward to their weekly lesson.

Adult music lessons can have many benefits outside of being an enjoyable activity! Our Manchester NH studio is located just off of interstate 293, and is easily accessible from Bedford, Londonderry, Derry, Hooksett, Goffstown, and other surrounding communities. And best of all, music lessons are just $25 per week!
